Fatigue is such a common medical symptom that you may either succumb to it without a thought or imagine you have every ailment known to man. Fatigue is more intense that feeling tired. Being tired is natural and expected at the end of the day or following strenuous activity. Fatigue is listlessness that is not remedied by sleep.

With a lack of motivation or initiative, you can awaken after a full night’s sleep, feeling disorientated, lethargic, and unable to concentrate. Sometimes you lay down midday for a brief nap and wale up late in the evening, wondering where the day has gone. Fatigue persists for days. Now you have concern. But lack the energy to pursue all the possible remedies. Let’s go through a simple list of common causes.

Nine Reasons For Fatigue

1. Medication – Is fatigue listed as a side effect of a prescription or over-the-counter medication you are taking? Follow label directions or speak to your doctor.

2. Ventilation – Open some windows and go outside to get fresh air. Call the local gas company if you suspect a leak. You can buy smoke and carbon monoxide detectors online. Carbon monoxide poisoning symptoms—more likely at homes with attached garages—include weakness, dullness, and loss of consciousness. Get outdoors and phone emergency services if detected.

3. Exercise – Aerobic physical exertion should make you tired, but not exhausted. If you are otherwise in good health, the increased heart rate boosts endorphins, which, make you feel more energized, thus help combat fatigue.

4. Caffeine – An occasional cup of java may be fine. Caffeine is both a stimulant and sedative. If you depend on a morning cup of coffee to get going followed by boosts or energy drinks throughout the day, you could be suffering from caffeine rebound. It may be good to wean yourself off and look into vitamin deficiencies.

5. Nutrition – Vitamin B12 deficiency, if it goes on long enough, undiagnosed and untreated, can lead to permanent damage of the brain and the spinal cord that can affect your ability to move, walk and think clearly. Vitamin D deficiencies can also invite fatigue and hurt bone health in the long term. Sufficient protein is important to combat fatigue. Describe symptoms to your doctor and ask for a blood test to determine if vitamin levels are low.

6. Alcohol – On both ends of the spectrum, many people either have a good time or cope with stress by consuming alcohol. Others feel it helps them relax—which it does, temporarily. Drinking wine, beer, or hard liquor during the day can make you feel drowsy or lethargic. It can also interfere with the quality of sleep.

7. Recreational Drugs – Legalization of marijuana for medical and recreational use can lead to feelings of listlessness. Some view this as a way to escape problems. However, it is better to get help with coping with the real source of issues.

8. Emotions – Depression can be result from a recent tragic such as separation, breakup, death of a loved one, an argument or act of violence. You can rebound from temporary sadness after a bit of rest and talking with a trusted friend or therapist. Prolonged depression may require prescription medication.

9. Illness – Fatigue can accompany other symptoms like fever or congestion to identify a cold or flu. Diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, anemia, thyroid disease, and sleep apnea can all cause fatigue.

If exhaustion persists despite reasonable efforts to combat it, there is a slight chance you could have either chronic fatigue or a more rare condition called dysautonomia.

One symptom of yeast infection is fatigue. An allergy, such as one to mold spores (which are not good for anyone), can cause fatigue that is sometimes chronic. Schedule an appointment with your physician.

Fatigue is extreme tiredness resulting from physical or mental exertion or illness.

Rest should rejuvenate. Fatigue is a symptom of an underlying problem. If you do not feel better after reasonable efforts, seek professional assistance. In addition to the general lack of stamina, a common problem with finding a solution to fatigue is that many people do not have access to affordable healthcare. This severely limits options. If you cannot get to a doctor or clinic, speak to one online. A service called 98point6 is economical.
